Mince Pies Recipe

Mince pies are a traditional Christmas treat in many parts of the world. They are small, sweet pastries filled with a mixture of dried fruit, spices, and sometimes alcohol, known as mincemeat. Here is a recipe for homemade mince pies that you can try:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2-3 tablespoons ice water
  • 1 cup mincemeat


Instructions:

  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour and butter. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
  • Stir in the sugar.
  • In a small bowl, beat the egg yolk and add it to the flour mixture. Add the ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together in a ball.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness. Using a round cookie cutter or the rim of a glass, cut out circles of dough.
  • Press the circles into a muffin tin, making sure to press the dough up the sides of the cups.
  • Fill each pie crust with about 1 tablespoon of mincemeat.
  • Cut out smaller circles or shapes from the remaining dough and place them on top of the mincemeat.
  • Bake the mince pies for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Let the mince pies cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
